What is a Norm? School Wide Assembly presented by L.E.A.D. Council

The junior class began the school year in the Leadership Seminar class, which is part of our Wellness Curriculum. A key lesson in the Leadership class is establishing and agreeing upon standard rules and expectations that remind students to exhibit kind and respectful behavior. These standards are referred to as Norms. The junior class was tasked with reviewing and revising last year’s Norms to create a set of Norms for this school year to present to the student body.

Mrs. Guarnaccia and Mrs. Clements, the seminar instructors, presented the norms from last year to the Juniors and asked them to review and revise them to make them stronger and more inclusive. Juniors expanded the norms to: build community and foster empathy; encourage seeking out new friends, interests, and opportunities; and provide comfort and support to others during challenging times. Once they finished making the necessary changes, L.E.A.D. created an engaging and informative presentation that was presented to all students. The presentation focused on the norms and examples of how to follow them. The slideshow also engaged other students by allowing discussion about the norms to follow the explanations.
